Earlier this week, Olympic gold medalist and former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash that killed two passengers — his close friends and longtime trainers, Sina Ghami and Kevin Ayodele.
Joshua was discharged from hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, and is now recovering at home. While the specifics of his injuries have not been made public, they were described as minor.
The hired driver involved in the crash was also hospitalized and later released, though TMZ reports the individual may face criminal charges. Authorities are also searching for the driver of a stationary truck that Joshua’s vehicle struck, who allegedly fled the scene after the collision.
Preliminary findings cited by The Guardian Nigeria suggest the crash may have been caused by a mechanical failure, with investigators pointing to a burst front passenger-side tyre that caused the vehicle to lose control before hitting the truck.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, public support has poured in for the victims’ families. More than $180,000 has reportedly been raised in Ayodele’s honor to help fund the construction of a mosque in his memory.
