The Cybertruck is struggling to live up to Elon Musk’s big promises.
Tesla sold just over 20,000 Cybertrucks in the US last year, according to industry data — far below the 250,000 annual sales Musk once predicted. Sales dropped sharply toward the end of 2025, and demand has cooled since the truck’s launch.
Although more than a million people initially reserved the vehicle, the final price came in far higher than early estimates, and ongoing quality issues haven’t helped. Since 2023, the Cybertruck has faced multiple recalls over problems ranging from faulty pedals to loose exterior parts.
Its bold design has also created challenges. Production delays, limited availability outside North America, and difficulty meeting safety standards in Europe and China have restricted global expansion.
Tesla has tried to revive interest by repositioning the Cybertruck as a more practical work vehicle and expanding sales to a few new markets, but so far, the pickup hasn’t delivered the turnaround Musk once envisioned.
