SpaceX says its Starlink network has surpassed 9 million customers, reaching the milestone just weeks after hitting 8 million. The rapid jump means Starlink has added more than one million users in under seven weeks, growing at a pace of over 20,000 new customers per day. The service is now active in 155 markets worldwide.
The surge caps off a year of explosive growth for SpaceX. Starlink’s customer base has more than doubled over the past year, and global internet traffic carried over the satellite network also rose sharply, according to data from Cloudflare. The constellation, powered by thousands of low-Earth-orbit satellites, has become the company’s largest revenue driver, founder Elon Musk said.
SpaceX is reportedly positioning itself for a potential IPO next year, as Starlink expands beyond home internet into aviation Wi-Fi and possible mobile services. The growth highlights how the company has turned satellite connectivity into a core business, alongside its dominance in reusable rockets and commercial launches.
