Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has reached a new agreement with the Pentagon to integrate its Grok family of AI models into the military’s GenAI.mil platform. The deployment is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and will embed Grok directly into the Department of War’s secure internal AI environment. Once live, the system will provide access to approximately 3 million military and civilian personnel.

According to both xAI and the Pentagon, Grok will operate at Impact Level 5, a high-security cloud standard that allows AI systems to process Controlled Unclassified Information as part of everyday operations. The GenAI.mil platform is designed to give government employees access to advanced AI tools while maintaining strict security controls.

In addition to Grok’s core capabilities, users will also receive real-time global insights sourced from the X platform, formerly Twitter. Officials said this feature is intended to provide timely situational awareness and an information advantage for Department of War personnel.

The agreement follows the launch of “xAI for Government,” a product suite aimed at federal, state, local, and national security customers. xAI joins other major AI firms, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, that have received Pentagon contracts worth up to $200 million to support the expansion of AI across national security operations.
