Facebook launches paid plan to boost link posts

Facebook is testing a paid subscription that limits how many links users can share each month unless they pay to unlock more.

In a small trial affecting select users in the UK and US, notifications warn that accounts will be capped at just two link posts per month unless they subscribe for £9.99. The test mainly targets creators and businesses using professional mode or Pages.

Meta confirmed the experiment, saying it is designed to see whether higher link-sharing limits offer enough value to justify a subscription. Links have traditionally been a key tool for creators, publishers, and brands to drive traffic to external websites, videos, and products.

Social media analyst Matt Navarra, who received one of the notifications, said the move suggests Meta is increasingly placing essential platform features behind a paywall, beyond services like Meta Verified.

Meta says the test is limited in scope and has not indicated whether the link restrictions will be rolled out more broadly or become permanent.
