A real horse in Japan briefly turned an ordinary day into a scene straight out of Umamusume: Pretty Derby after escaping its campus stable, wandering through the city, and then calmly deciding to return home on its own.

In Umamusume, horses are often shown exploring life beyond training, getting distracted by city life or enjoying moments outside campus. On January 5, that anime-like scenario played out in real life in Kawasaki City. According to translations from Livedoor, a horse kept by Meiji University’s equestrian club slipped out of its stable early in the morning.

Around 7:30 a.m., police began receiving calls about a horse roaming the streets of Tama Ward. Video from the scene later went viral, showing the animal peacefully trotting along public roads while a police car followed behind — more like a casual sightseeing stroll than a dangerous escape.

About 30 minutes after the first report, the horse returned to the university campus on its own. Police confirmed it was unharmed and that no injuries were reported. Authorities are now looking into how the horse managed to get out of the stable.

While no real-life horses linked to Umamusume are known for solo city adventures, the franchise’s iconic character Gold Ship was famously known in real life for his unpredictable and chaotic behavior.
