Director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were killed at their Los Angeles home, allegedly by their 32-year-old son Nick, according to multiple reports. The couple were found Sunday afternoon (Dec. 14) and appeared to have suffered knife-related injuries, TMZ reported.
Nick Reiner is now in Los Angeles Police Department custody. Authorities say he had struggled for years with drug addiction and homelessness.
Rob Reiner, 78, was the son of acclaimed writer, actor, and director Carl Reiner. He rose to fame for his role on All in the Family from 1971 to 1978 and later directed a string of well-known films, including Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, and When Harry Met Sally.
He was also widely celebrated for his work on the 1984 rock mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, which he directed, co-wrote, and starred in as fictional filmmaker Marty DiBergi. The film became a cult classic for its satirical take on rock culture and touring life.
Earlier this year, Reiner reflected on the film’s legacy, noting the challenge of balancing homage with satire. A sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, was released in September and reunited the original cast alongside appearances from musicians including Paul McCartney and Elton John.
